Google Reader Death

For those of you who follow me using Google Reader, I'm sure you've learned that Google Reader is shutting down. So to make sure you don't lose your great subscriptions...

Here's a link to a Forbes article with 5 great alternatives to Google Reader.
  1. The Old Reader
  2. Feedly
  3. Newsblur
  4. Reeder
  5. Digg

I personally have switched to Feedly as my RSS reader replacement, and it's pretty great! You can easily port over your existing subscriptions using your google login.

Dino Days Are Over

I got a chance to sit and paint a little bit yesterday, a much needed break from my computer slaved days writing copy for my marketing job.
I'm making a series of dinosaur paintings ad creating a mini prehistoric gallery at my place. Here's one of my derpy dinosaurs I painted just yesterday. What do you think?

Paint drip nails

These are amazing, found at Chalkboard Nails.
My problem is that it takes me literally 4 hours when I try to do nail art on myself and often ends in a mess of cotton balls and tears.
Do you have any tips to doing nail art successfully?

Paint By Numbers

Awhile back Mr. Rockit got a few vintage paint by numbers for me to play with, but I hadn't gotten around to painting them.

One slow Saturday a couple weeks ago I broke them out and started to work with it.

As the paint is probably over 20 years old, it was all dry and brittle and unusable, but I used the colors as guides and created my own with acrylic paint.

Looking forward to showing you my final product!

Vintage Canister Spree

One of my goals for 2013 is to make our home somewhere I really like to be in, and that means making it pretty!

Naturally, I went on an etsy spree.

A bit premature, perhaps.
The next step is to paint.
Eek!

A return from hiatus

I have lost many followers over the last couple of years, and it's because I haven't POSTED ANYTHING!
Well I'm here to say hello, I'm back, and I mean to upkeep this blog once again.
2013!

Right now I'm enjoying a lovely holiday break in Michigan, and then it's back to San Francisco for me.

Stay tuned for ACTUAL crafty type updates. What? No way. Yes.

For now enjoy these winter wonderland photos from my instagram.

Hello Kitty Headband

Annd my first project back is a Hello Kitty headband.
Big surprise!

I came across this adorbz costume but it's like $50 and I figured I'd try making it.

At the least I could make the headband.

I remembered to take photos during the process this time so I can actually post a quick and easy tutorial. Character headbands like this are great for when you don't want to wear a full out costume to work or to school. Or just for fun I guess.

If you're feeling REAL ambitious you can always go for this costume

And I also think I'll definitely be making Optimus this little number :D

Back!

It's been forever and a day since I posted last (July 12)
and a lot happened.

I got married. It was fun. Here a couple of photos.
That dress was so heavy I had to change out of it into a little reception dress.

1: husband and I walking into reception
2: newlywed photobooth
3: mom and bro in photobooth

So now that the wedding is over, I have nothing to stress about and will be free to craft and post once again.

I'll do a full wedding post when I have more photos. :)

Mushroom Blog

I made these little mushrooms for my brother and his girlfriend,
and oh my gosh they are so cute that they started a tumblr following these little mushrooms on their journeys around the world. Or Michigan, rather.

Anyway- check out Papaya and Kimchi- the little mushrooms in love.

Wedding Wreaths

After consulting with my mom and her flower friend while in Michigan- the final wedding wreath design was decided on. I am pretty happy with it if I do say so myself.

The felt flower pattern I used is from purl bee's rose barrette pattern,
and I purchased 12 styrofoam wreath bases for only like $30 with shipping from save on crafts. Great site if you are making bulk crafts- The wreaths were like $3.50 each at the craft store. Yay online shopping win!

Yap Wrap

So I was in a little boutique-y pet store the other day and came across these yap wraps.

And I thought they were so cute- but Chevy Chase (my fur baby Rat Terrier) is so broad chested they wouldn't fit him and I was sad.
But then I realized I could make one for him.

I made a prototype last night,
and am working on the finished product but it is pretty spot on.

I can't post a tutorial though, because I'm pretty sure that's infringing on yap's copyright,
but I will say it's pretty easy if you can just take measurements of your doggle where the little velcro straps are. Chevy is HUGE around his tummy and has a tiny little lemon head!
